suburban squall

Sabbia Gallery
15 April 2026 - 9 May 2026

The works in Suburban Squall bring together clay and tumbled bricks collected over many years from a beach near my home and studio, carried to the sea via creeks from a long-closed brickworks. These industrial remnants have been worn by waves and time, their rigid forms softened into organic shapes and reclaimed by the ocean.

The sculptures speak of occupation, extraction, and expansion, while also evoking shelter, community, and endurance. My intention is to honour this cultural weight by heroing each brick as a singular presence and transforming the remnants through handmade ceramic elements into quietly monumental works. Each piece is a sentinel of sorts, a distinct personality that stands in the present while reminding us of the past and urging us to uphold our responsibilities to a shared future on this planet.

An exhibition at Sabbia Gallery in Sydney, some pieces from this exhibition are now available here.
