Elixir Fountain
MFA Postgrad Show
November 2024, National Art School, Sydney.
Part of my graduating Master of Fine Art work from the National Art School, Elixir Fountain explores the theme of ageing, represented by a stacked terracotta structure that evokes the idea of a "fountain of youth". This work reflects on the challenges of ageism and Western beauty standards.
Comparing the moral undertones found in historical women's needlework with the contemporary use of injectables by increasingly younger generations, this work highlights the ongoing tension between societal expectations and personal identity across time.
My work employs ceramic forms to engage with narratives of femininity, identity, and domesticity. Inspired by historic examples of women’s subversive messages hidden within textiles, my practice seeks to revive these traditions through the use of symbols masquerading as decorative patterns. Placed adjacent to a key, the pieces softly whisper to be interpreted.
